Pam first opened The Quilt Room in Dorking, Surrey nearly 37 years ago when Nicky was just three years old. The Quilt Room was originally located in the flat above what is now our shop today. In the late eighties we moved to larger premises down the road and stayed there for well over 20 years. Life often seems to come full circle and a few years ago we relocated the shop back to where it all first began, although we now occupy the downstairs! Nicky joined Pam in the business thirteen years ago and has never looked back - some of the staff even remember Nicky from when she was three!
Our longarm quilting business was established in 2007 and has shaped the way our business has grown. We now have two Gammill Statler Stitchers and thanks to these wonderful machines, we are able to design and make lots of new quilts!
The Quilt Room building is steeped in history dating back to the 15th century. Underneath the shop are tunnels and caves that run and join up under the High Street and were most likely used by smugglers many many years ago. We have also been told there are a few resident ghosts although we're not sure if they're quilters or not! Set in a courtyard behind the shop is our purpose built studio that houses our two Gammill longarm quilting machines. Upstairs in the studio you will find our mail order department and our workshop room.
Dorking is a lovely old market town nestling in the valley of the North Downs. There is plenty to see and West Street in particular is well know for the array of antique and boutique shops. There are also plenty of restaurants and cafes so it's never a problem finding somewhere to eat. Dorking is also the home of Denbies Wine Estate, the award winning English vineyard and if you do come and visit us then Denbies is certainly worth a visit.
We stock an eclectic range of excellent quality cotton patchwork fabrics from well loved designers around the world as well as the essential basic ranges from Moda and Makower. As well as Moda jelly rolls and other pre-cuts, we cut and sell our own, many of which feature in our exclusive Quilt Room quilt kits.
We are a small, friendly team always on hand to help you and make your time with us enjoyable. We welcome groups and if you are a group wishing to visit, just let us know so we can stock up on tea and biscuits!
We hope you enjoy browsing our website and blog and we look forward to welcoming you to our shop.
